This thread was inspired by the rainy day we had yesterday. As I sat inside finishing lesson planning for the week and finishing up some extra school work, I realized how much I cherish rainy, relaxing days. One of my poems is also inspired by one of my close friends that I have recently spent a bunch of time with. These last couple months have been a breeze which is why I am excited to release yet another poetry thread.
Hope you enjoy <3

"if a girl was rain"
hair so curly, brown and fawn,
a laugh so bright it lingers on
she’s like a game, a piece well-played,
in her butterfly shirt, I’m gladly swayed
she loves to play, and chai lattes,
a never-ending, laughing maze
a friend so dear, please let her stay,
to make darling memories, day by day
her pretty glasses, chocolate eyes,
“i really like it when it’s rainy out,” she pouts
she hides herself in quiet skies,
if a girl was rain, she’d never doubt
“Rainy Day Ritual”
pitter-patter against my feet,
the rain retreats in quick defeat
I step inside and close the door,
my shoes squeak softly on the floor
Mrs. Smith, with book in hand,
stands so still and planned, so grand
I nod, then curl up in my nook
and reach for my favorite classic book
with nature tapping and time set straight,
I hope the calm won’t come too late
headphones on, heart feeling light,
I know I’ll have a perfect night
“After the Rain”
a ray of warmth
beats down on my heart
you wrap a scarf around my neck
a moment, quiet as art
we dance and prance along the street
you keep me close, you smile so wide
then send me off with gentle feet
and vanish, like a changing tide
then come the wraps of gray and pour
the storm rolls in, to my surprise
the wind slams hard against the door
my heart, again, is compromised
but when the thunder slips away
and silence hums against the air
I rise, step out into the day,
the sun still shining there
"Morning Reminder"
The night was a blur
windy and gray,
my heart engulfed
in a seasick sway
The morning after, I took a walk,
beneath the sky's sarcastic mock
The way it cried, burned through with pain,
reminded me of us, again
The sidewalk glistened, endless, tight,
my heart grew heavy at the sight.
Does it feel empty, used, betrayed,
just walked on when it's worth the trade
Still, I carry on, day by day,
watching your heart from far away.
Your smile and presence, both decayed
a morning reminder of what I pay
Latte Love,
Jill ☕️
