The end of the semester is quickly approaching, and every year it reminds me of how overwhelming this time used to feel. Finals, assignments, and projects always seemed to pile up all at once. I still get that tug of homesickness sometimes, missing my family and seeing them every day, but I’m grateful that the craziness of this semester hasn’t been too crazy here at SHU.
One of the biggest parts of becoming a college student is finding your “home.” I’ve talked before about Delight and how it’s helped strengthen my connection with God, but I also want to share about a group of friends who have become such a huge part of my life this semester. Our little crew includes twins Gabby and Gianna, plus Emma, Halie, Morgan, and Riley. One of my favorite memories with them started when the twins and I went down to my favorite coffee and tea shop, Steep Mountain in downtown Greensburg. The vibes are always perfect, and I love settling in with something delicious to sip on
Honestly, I could probably write a whole book about how much I love Steep Mountain. The menu, the décor, the friendly workers, everything just ties together so well. Last weekend they finally released their holiday drink menu, and of course I went the moment I got back to campus. The Polar Bear Plunge Refresher is one of my favorites, the perfect blend of coconut, blue raspberry, cold foam, and pure deliciousness. And that’s not even mentioning the coffees, teas, matcha, cold brews, and everything else I adore.
I try to see each of the girls at least once a week. Most of them live in the apartment-style suites right across from my building, so it’s easy for us to grab dinner, go to Delight events, watch Dancing with the Stars, go to the occasional bingo night, or hunker down for a study session at the library. Whenever we’re together, I feel genuinely happy. I also met another friend, Jayla, through Delight, and we’ve made it a habit to grab breakfast together during the week. And, I have to mention that while I'm writing this, I am currently sitting with one of my closest and first college friend, Shay. She is just such a great friend a girl could only dream of!
Finding your home, and learning to live on your own, is such a big part of college. Even though I always miss my dog and my family, I’ve found a wonderful community here at Seton Hill, and it means the absolute world to me. I also kept my part-time job and head home on weekends for a bit of normalcy. I’m so grateful to have such an amazing group of girls to spend my time with and a cozy little coffee shop I can always escape to. & of course, we always coffee talk!
Latte Love,
Jill ☕️
